Solutions:
Reasoning Puzzle
Ans.1. 3
Ans.2. 2
Ans.3. 5
Ans.4. 4
Ans.5. 3
Ans.6. 4; Neither of the statements is strong. Medicines do have to be tested before they come into the market. But there can be other methods of testing the medicines. Also, we do not know whether medicines have an impact on hormones or not. Hence, option (4) is the correct answer.
Ans.7. 1; Only argument I is strong. Safety of students is a very important issue. Argument II is weak. Misusing cell phones for texting in class is not a strong enough reason for stopping children from using cell phones as teachers can keep a check on such activities in the class. Also, just because cell phones can be misused, it doesn’t mean that children should be stopped from using them altogether. Hence, option (1) is the correct answer.
Ans.8. 4; The first course of action does not follow. It is not logical to suspend someone because of omissions in the reports. Statement II does not indicate whether the situation necessitates fresh filing of files or not. Course of action II does not follow because incomplete details can be corrected by simply completing the original file. Fresh files need not be made. Hence, option (4) is the correct answer.
Ans.9. 2; According to the statement, a large number of people have been diagnosed with the disease. Not allowing anyone to move out of the country is not a logical course of action. There might be tourists or locals who do not suffer from the disease and want to move out to escape getting affected by the disease. WHO sending a team of experienced doctors is a plausible course of action. Hence, option (2) is the correct answer.
Ans.10. 2; In case of a natural calamity, it is essential for the government to provide basic amenities in order to save the lives of people and cattle. Providing financial assistance to all would put undue burden on the country’s resources. Hence, only II follows, rendering option (2) the correct answer.
